Signal Generation Toolkits
Testing a processing chain requires signals whose properties are known exactly. Generated test signals give that certainty: if the input is a pure tone of known amplitude and frequency, then anything else in the output came from the chain itself rather than from the measurement.
The toolkit provides periodic waveforms, noise processes, swept signals and arbitrary waveforms built from a sample list or an expression. Sources are summed and scaled to construct realistic composites, such as a two-tone signal buried in noise at a specified signal-to-noise ratio.
Noise with defined statistics
Noise sources are specified by their distribution and spectrum, not just by an amplitude. Gaussian, uniform and pink noise are available with a settable variance, and the generator seed can be fixed so a test that fails is reproducible on the next run.
Combining and shaping signals
Once generated, signals are combined with the usual operations: addition, multiplication, delay, resampling, windowing and concatenation. Chirp sweeps are particularly useful for measurement, since one linear or logarithmic sweep excites the whole band of interest and yields a frequency response in a single capture.
